Costco Depot 267 Parking Lot Improvements

Morris, IL

This project was a full-depth reconstruction of the existing employee parking lot and full-depth concrete patching in the truck depot area. The construction schedule called for a very quick turnaround, as to not inconvenience the daily operations of a working facility. The original scope of work included 3 ¾” asphalt removal and replacement in the existing employee parking lot and removal and replacement of existing concrete pavement in the depot trucking areas, with stone base re-grading and compacting prior to re-paving and patching of the lots. The scope for the employee parking lot reconstruction also called for full-depth removal and replacement of the existing stone base, and stabilization of the existing sub-grade prior to re-paving the lot, however once the asphalt was removed Gallagher found the existing base to be unsuitable in many areas. Considering the time of year and weather conditions, Gallagher thought it best to avoid full-depth removal and replacement across the lot, and isolate the worst areas for remediation by undercuts instead. This proved to be the answer, as the project pushed towards completion much faster than it would have with the original scope. Although it may not have been in Gallagher’s best interest to forego potential work on this project, it was definitely in the best interest of the owner and others involved. With that in mind, Gallagher was able to gain the trust and approval from the Client.
