Harlem Avenue was 13.6 lane miles of 12′ lanes and 3.4 miles of variable with median (4′ to 15′). The project consisted of milling the mainline and median 2.5″ for a total of 152,000 square yards; paving 6,000 tons of polymerized leveling binder and then topping it all off with 15,000 tons of polymerized surface.
The project was a challenge due the high volume of traffic and the overwhelming amount of local commercial businesses that continued to thrive while our work was ongoing. Even with these challenges, Gallagher Asphalt delivered the project ahead of schedule and under budget for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
